How did Morten go from chef to developer? What’s his background?#
Morten spent 20 years in professional kitchens, working his way up to kitchen leader — running teams, owning budgets, and keeping high-pressure service running smoothly. While working as sous chef in the Microsoft canteen, he spent enough time around engineering teams to see the parallels between kitchen work and software: planning ahead, owning your systems, communicating clearly under pressure. Eventually he stopped watching and started learning, which led him to formally study software development.

Yes — Morten is currently in his 4th semester studying to be a Datamatiker (Computer Science, AP degree), with a focus on backend development, databases, and clean code. He’s also taking an elective on AI-driven applications (RAG, agents), building this site’s RAG chatbot, and building and maintaining his main project, MiseOS.
What is MiseOS, Morten’s main project?#
MiseOS is Morten’s main project — a full-stack kitchen management platform (Java/Javalin backend, React frontend, PostgreSQL) that was deployed and tested for several weeks in a real kitchen.
What has Morten built with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation)?#
Morten is currently working with RAG as part of his AI-driven applications elective. He built “Studie Sheriff,” a RAG chatbot trained only on his study program’s official curriculum document, answering questions strictly from that source and citing where each answer came from. He also built this portfolio site’s own RAG chatbot, using Dify.ai to connect his own content to a language model via embeddings and retrieval. Separately, in MiseOS he integrated generative AI directly into a production system: Gemini AI powers AI-generated menu inspiration (streamed via SSE) and AI-assisted normalization of shopping lists, and DeepL handles translation of menu and guest-facing content.
Does Morten have experience with real production systems, not just school assignments?#
Yes. MiseOS is deployed to production via a full CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions, Docker, Watchtower, Caddy, DigitalOcean) and was actively used and tested in a real kitchen. Two of his other projects also have live, running demos: Fog Carport at fog.corral.dk and Olsker Cupcakes at cupcake.corral.dk.
